The mistake of comparing old screenshots of T2 to new stills of “TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY 3D”.

Since the day publicity stills for “Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D” began circulating the internet months ago, we have received e-mails from fans making comparisons between screenshots of the 1991 film to the new 2017 stills circulated by Studiocanal.  We want to warn you that doing so would be a big mistake.

Please do not fall into the trap of comparing film screenshots with publicity production stills. Theses promotional stills do not equate to the coloring, nor the aspect ratio, and not even the picture quality of what the final result will be in the theater.

Take this original publicity still for “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”, released for publication in 1991:

Now take a look at an actual screenshot from the 1991 theatrical film:

If you notice both the coloring and the aspect ratio differ from the promotional still to the actual film.  This is basically an indicator that promotional stills are never to be trusted as a reflective guide of a final print of a film.

Ultimately, it is definitely not wise to make any assumptions of the final theatrical release of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D” based on comparisons like these.

Actually, screenshots of the new “Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D” trailer is a much safer source to use for comparisons, however even that has risk. Studios have been known to adjust the film clips in trailers in varying ways and hues, to fit their promotional needs at the time.

We hope that helps!

We’ll be back.

  1. The new stills certainly made it appear that Mr. Cameron removed the blue saturation from the movie.

    Happy Mother’s Day!

  2. I love the detail you guys go into on this site. It’s the level of detail Jim himself would encourage I am sure. Nice work…and you’re right about publicity photos; never to be confused with a still from the film.

  3. Just waiting on that Official first Confirmation on the new terminator movie now. Hopefully it will not be a T6 continuation but rather a follow up to T2 hence why the rerelease. I know it’s just a name but I want to see it as “The” terminator, much like Alien did with the sequal as “Aliens” . My hope is they continue the story from the ending of terminator 2 where instead of the T800 lowered into the steel he has a change of heart and decides his mission is not over. As they leave the factory John somehow becomes separated and caught by the police and Sarah and “uncle Bob” decide now isn’t the time to rescue John and that he will b safe in police protection . Sarah and the mechine get to work on rebuilding him giving him time to heel. It would be better to approach it like that has Sarah could grow a bond with the terminator and John could go thru military school. It all is centred around the chip in T800’s head. And the fact that his hydrogen fuel cells are both extremely damaged after the T1000 attack. In a strange twist also the steel that distroyed the T1000 has left a legacy . After the workers reopened the mill, they noticed that when the steel set it was able to bend and mold shapes and return to the original shape. This boosts the company and expands his business with cyberdyne and creating what the T800 in T2 discribed as Mimetic Poly alloy.

My ideas are very flawed but I have pitched 2 ideas to comic books and both thought they was interesting but would base around a copyright movie which would be a legal matter but I have almost 27pages of story wrote . My sister is an artist and is doing a rough storyboard of the first chapter in hopes it can be made as an independent graphic novel in the near future. Hope to keep you all posted.
