First it was “Hasta La Vista” Paramount Pictures. Now, it’s “I’m back!” After a long running partnership between Skydance and Paramount Pictures was seemingly coming to a close this year (freeing up Skydance to shop movie projects to any studio in the world), Skydance decided to sign a new deal with… you guessed it.. Paramount Pictures! And they are bringing James Cameron’s new Terminator trilogy with them.
Here is a portion of the press release Skydance distributed today:
Skydance, a diversified media company that creates elevated, event-level entertainment for global audiences, has extended its worldwide feature film production and distribution agreement with Paramount Pictures for an additional four years. Skydance and Paramount will together produce highly anticipated installments of the Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, and World War Z franchises as well as a RE-LAUNCH of the TERMINATOR FRANCHISE and original features Bermuda Triangle and Gemini Man, among other films that have not yet been announced.
Now rumors originally alleged that Skydance was going to strike a deal with Fox to co-finance Terminator 6. But in an interesting twist, long time friend of James Cameron and ex-20th Century Fox chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos became the new Chairman and C.E.O. of Paramount Pictures this year. And Skydance has now done a new deal with Paramount. Is it a coincidence? Or did none other than James Cameron broker the relationship between Skydance’s David Ellison and Jim Gianopulos? Considering how loyal Cameron has been known to be with his friends, it is certainly possible.
Expect that Terminator 6 announcement very soon Terminator fans!
We’ll be back!
