In promotion of the 3D theatrical re-release of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”, the creator of our favorite franchise had a conversation with the popular entertainment news magazine Entertainment Weekly. The subject of Terminator 6 naturally came up, and how likely was it really going to happen. (It seemed like the interviewer was skeptical about T6.)
It’s finally here Terminator fans! Back in December 2015, James Cameron announced he would be partnering with DMG Entertainment and Studiocanal to give his 1991 blockbuster “Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ the most advanced 3D conversion to date. Originally targeted to be timed with the film’s 25th Anniversary (a benchmark that has now passed), fans still couldn’t be more excited to see this amazing movie again (or for the first time) where it was meant to be seen… in the cinema!
Most Terminator fans know that James Cameron originally intended a different ending for Terminator 2: Judgment Day, referred to as the future coda. This original filmed conclusion shows a brighter future thanks to the T-800 Model 101, featuring an old Sarah Connor reflecting about a Judgment Day that never occurred, and her son John Connor fighting a different fight now, as a U.S. Senator.
“I know now why you cry. But it is something I could never do.” When the T-800 Model 101 said those heartbreaking words to young John Connor before he sacrificed his life for the sake of humanity in Terminator 2: Judgment Day”, it brought many viewers to tears. This poignant moment clearly defined the difference between humans and machines, and why humanity must be preserved.
Exactly a month ago, in order to freshen up the Terminator franchise, creator James Cameron revealed that actor Arnold Schwarzenegger would only be somewhat involved “to some extent” with Terminator 6, 7 and 8. This seemed to indicate that fans should not expect Arnold to be the ‘headlining star’ that carries these new Terminator films forward, especially when Cameron also revealed that these new Terminator films would “pass the baton” to new characters.
